Force Over Powered by Glory

Allentown, Pa. - Desiree Serrano pitched a complete game to lead the visiting Washington Glory to a 4-1 victory over the Philadelphia Force. The expansion Glory (6-2) took three of the four games in the National Pro Fastpitch series.

In her win, Serrano (3-1) gave up five hits to the Force and the lone run was unearned.

Stacy Birk (1-1) was charged with the loss. Birk pitched four innings and yielded three runs on four hits.

In the fourth inning, the Glory took a 3-1 lead on back-to-back home runs. After third baseman Sara Larquier drew a two-out walk, second baseman Nicole Thompson hit her second home run of the season. Designated player Stephanie Best followed Thompson with her first home run of the season.

The Force (1-3) took the early 1-0 lead in the second inning. Clare Burnum, who got the start at third base, singled through the right side. Glory right fielder Nicole Barber misplayed the ball, and the hustling Burnum made it all the way to third base. The next batter, Megan McAllister, hit a deep fly ball to center field that was caught by Kelly Kretschman, but Burnum would score easily on the sacrifice fly.

The Glory was robbed of two runs in their half of the second inning by left fielder McAllister. With first baseman Oli Keohohou on first base with a single, Larquier hit a drive to deep left center that McAllister tracked down as she crashed through the portable fence for the out.

With Meagan Hennessy pitching for the Force in the fifth inning, the Glory extended their lead. Kretschman knocked a one-out single. Left fielder LaDonia Hughes then grounded out to second base, but Kretschman moved up to second base. Shortstop Amber Jackson drove a Hennessy pitch right up the middle to plate Kretschman with the fourth Glory run.

The Glory hit home runs in all four games of the series, and in five consecutive games overall.

On Wednesday, the Force return to ECTB Stadium to face the undefeated Akron Racers with game time set for 7:05 p.m.
