Settlemier Huge in 7-0 Win Over VenezuelaThunder at Home Tomorrow at 7:15 p.m.

ROCKFORD, Ill. – After struggling with the bats all weekend against the New England Riptide, the Thunder wasted little time jumping on Team Venezuela, as they cruised to a 7-0 victory.

Rockford (9-2) pitcher Serena Settlemier did her job in the top of the first inning, as she retired the side in order, thanks in large part to a double play turned by the infield. The only hit Settlemier allowed in the game came in the top of the first inning.

Audrey Rendon got the offense going for the Thunder in the first, this time hitting out of the leadoff role customarily filled by Kristen Zaleski, with a triple to right field. Zaleski walked and stole second base to put runners on second and third. Clean-up hitter Kim Wendland grounded out second base to score Rendon from third. Amanda Williams would hit next and she would drive in Zaleski for the second run of the game. Settlemier then cleared the bases a couple of batters later with an RBI double.

Offensively, the Thunder couldn’t get anything going again until the bottom of the sixth inning where they plated three more runners. Zaleski got the inning started with her third walk of the game and two batters later she came around to score on an Amanda Williams triple. Jamie Davison, who was hitting for Lindsay Gardner, knocked in Williams with the first hit of her career. The Thunder would cap the scoring when De De Justice doubled to right-centerfield, scoring Serena Settlemier, who singled earlier in the inning.

The Thunder had eight players collect at least one hit in the ballgame. Settlemier led the way going 3-for-3 with two RBI and a double, while A. Williams was also impressive, as she finished the night 2-for-3 with a triple, two runs scored and two RBI.

In the circle Settlemier was also very effective. She went the first five innings and allowed just the first inning single to J. Pimental from Venezuela. With the win Settlemier improved her record to 3-2 on the season.

Rookie pitcher Cassidy Scoggins came on to relieve Settlemier and went the final two innings without allowing a hit.

The Thunder was without Cat Osterman, Amanda Freed and Mackenzie Vandergeest on Tuesday night and will be again on Wednesday. The three players are currently participating in National Team tryout camp in Chula Vista, Calif.

The Thunder will be in action again Wednesday night for the final game of a six-game home stand. Game time is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. CDT and the game will be carried live on the Internet at The Bandits will play Venezuela as well with their game beginning at 4:45 p.m.

Fans who purchase tickets to the Venezuelan games will receive admission to both the Thunder game at 7:15 p.m. and the Bandits game vs. Venezuela at 4:45 p.m.
