Spencer Leads Force to Win

By:
Allentown, Pa. - The National Pro Fastpitch leading hitter Chelsea Spencer went 3-for-4 to lead the Philadelphia Force to a 5-3 win over the China National Team in game three of their series.

Pitcher Margo Pruis (1-0) earned her first professional victory by going the distance in the circle. Pruis, the rookie from Wichita State University, allowed four hits and three unearned runs.

The Force (5-6) started the scoring in the first inning. Center fielder Sharonda McDonald led off the inning with an infield single. She promptly stole second base, but injured herself sliding into the bag. She was replaced by Stacie Pestrak. After a wild pitch, Spencer singled home Pestrak with a clean single to right.

The China National Team answered in the top of the second inning. They scored three runs which was highlighted by a 2-run home run by third baseman Tan Ying.

In the third, the Force would get one run back. Right fielder Trena Peel walked. Next batter Spencer drove a pitch into right field to move Peel to third. China made a wild throw trying to catch Spencer rounding first which allowed Peel to score the second Force run.

Peel would rob Team China of three runs in the fourth inning. With the bases loaded and two outs, Zhou Yi hit a deep drive to right field. Peel calmly went back to the fence and reached over to steal the grand slam from the center fielder for China.

Trailing 3-2 in the fifth inning, Peel led off the inning with a double to right center. Spencer, who raised her average to .500 on the season, then blasted a two-run home run to left field to give the Force the lead for good. The home run gave Spencer seven RBI’s on the season.

Peel gave the Force an insurance run in the sixth inning when she launched her first home run of the season, a line shot to right field.

Pruis sat down China in order in the seventh to complete the win.

Game four of the series is set for Sunday with game time set for 1:05 p.m.
