2003 NPF ALL-STAR TOUR ROSTER SET

13-Woman Lineup Includes Five Pro Players

2003 NATIONAL PRO FASTPITCH ALL-STAR TOUR ROSTER SET

DENVER, COLO. – With five players sporting previous pro experience, Coach Tim Kiernan has set his roster for the 2003 National Professional Fastpitch All-Star Team as the tour travels to 17 cities this summer and partners with a dozen Major League Baseball clubs to present games, clinics and promotions.

Kiernan, who has coached professionally the last four seasons, compiled an 814-134 (.859) in 16 seasons at Sacramento City College (1981-1997). His teams claimed 15 league titles, three state championships and one national title. Kiernan coached 75 all-Americans and sent over 150 players to four-year universities.

Kiernan, who was the head coach of 2001 and 2002 Women’s Pro Softball League All-Star teams, has a team featuring four former pro All-Stars. Amy Kyler will be the featured pitcher for the 2003 NPF All-Stars after playing professionally for both the Carolina Diamonds (1997-98) and Akron Racers (1999-2000).

Other WPSL All-Stars are outfielder Danielle Cox (Georgia Pride, 1999, and Akron Racers, 2000), first baseman/outfield Jaime Foutch (Ohio Pride, 2000) and catcher Scia Maumausolo (Virginia Roadsters, 1999, Florida Wahoos, 2000). The other player with previous pro experience is outfielder Venus Taylor (Carolina Diamonds, 1997-1998 and Tampa Bay FireStix, 1999-2000.

Kiernan, who will be assisted by Trina Salcido, has also selected four players that have played on NCAA national championship teams at the University of Arizona, including shortstop Allison Andrade, outfield Lauren Bauer, catcher/outfielder Lindsey Collins and outfielder/first baseman Erika Hanson.

With the PAC-10 Conference featuring the strongest collegiate teams in the United States, Kiernan has also named pitcher Tarrah Beyster (Oregon State), infielder Kara Brun (Arizona State), and infielder Lisa Iancin (Cal-Berkeley). Joining Foutch as former Big 12 Conference all-league on the 2003 NPF All-Star Tour roster is catcher/third baseman Shauna Briggs.

Other members of the 2003 NPF All-Star Tour traveling party including Nicole Lanza (trainer), Brooke Siebel (manager), Jillian Clark (tour administration), Aaron Moore (media relations) and Reed Saunders (media relations). Clark (Southwest State University), Moore (Southern Colorado) and Saunders (Colorado State) graduated from college this spring.

The 2003 NPF All-Star Tour will also feature the association’s first season as an Official Development Partner of Major League Baseball (MLB) in fastpitch softball. The partnership is part of The Commissioner’s Initiative on Women and Baseball, a league-wide effort launched in 2000 to help MLB and the 30 Major League Clubs build stronger relationships with female audiences.

The tour activities with the MLB and MLB clubs will vary from city-to-city, including MLB ballpark appearances, autograph signing and demonstrations at MLB games, participation in MLB club’s women’s promotions, appearances at the JOHN HANCOCK ALL-STAR FANFEST with a special “Women on the Diamond” exhibit, participation in the RadioShack All-Star Legends and Celebrity Softball Game and special community outreach events and clinics.

The 2003 NPF All-Star Tour activities will also vary depending upon location. Most Tour stops will include exhibition fastpitch games featuring NPF All-Stars vs. local fastpitch stars, clinics for girls with instruction from NPF All-Stars, and Family ballpark activities, including autograph signing, demonstrations and skills competitions.

The mission of NPF is to establish a profitable and sustainable nationwide premier professional fastpitch league which provides fans affordable family entertainment; enables elite women athletes the opportunity to pursue a professional career in their chosen sport; allows corporations to extend their marketing initiatives through alliance with a core women’s sport; and enables teams to become core constituencies of their local communities.
