Glory Wins in Final At-Bat Over Ice

Fairfax, VA – The Washington Glory (19-5) rallied in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat the Michigan Ice, 3-2, to complete a game four game sweep on Sunday afternoon at the George Mason Softball Complex. Catalina Morris ended the game with a walk-off single to right field.

Down 2-1 going into the bottom of the seventh, Sara Larquier led off the inning with a solo home run down the left field line, her league leading eighth long ball of the season. With one out, Jessica Moore was hit by a pitch, putting the game-winning run on base. Two batters later, now with two outs, Nichole Thompson singled to center field and advanced to second on the throw. Morris then singled to right to score Moore from third to end the game.

The Glory took the 1-0 lead in the second inning. Thompson reached safely to lead off the inning with an infield single. After promptly stealing second base, the former Sun Devil scored as Catalina Morris reached on an error by first baseman, Kim Biskup.

Michigan tied the game in the fifth inning on two hits and a wild pitch. Charity Butler started the rally with a one-out single to left. Butler then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Kim Biskup. Now with two outs, Lani Shaffer reached on an infield single putting runners on the corners. Butler later scored on a wild pitch that got passed catcher, Sara Larquier and hit the backstop.

Former George Washington Colonial, Elana Meyers gave the Ice their first lead of the series, as she led off the sixth inning with a solo blast down the right field line. The homer was Meyers' first professional home run.

Desiree Serrano (10-3) received the win in her complete game, becoming the first NPF player to reach 10 wins. Serrano allowed just two runs on six hits while striking out five.

Ashley Hamby pitched well for the Ice but did not get enough run support to receive the win. Hamby went the distance allowing three runs on six hits.

Thompson led the Glory offense going 3-4 on the day with a run scored and a stolen base.

Elana Meyers and Lani Shaffer both collected two hits for the Ice. Meyers finished 2-3 with a home run while Shaffer also went 2-3 with two singles.
