Possible Rookie of the Year Wins it For Glory

Fairfax, VA - Amber Jackson provided the game-winning run with a walk-off solo home run to give the Washington Glory (23-7) a 3-2 victory over the Philadelphia Force (13-13) on Thursday night at the George Mason Softball Complex. Sarah Pauly received the win in her complete game effort.

The Force struck first with a run in the first. Emily Friedman led off the game with a double to left center and advanced to third on a groundout by Chelsea Spencer. With two outs, Jenna Hall reached on an error allowing Friedman to score.

Washington tied the game with a run of their own in the bottom of the third. Callie Piper singled to lead off the inning, and was replaced by pinch runner, Brooke Marnitz. Jessica Moore sacrificed her over to second with a bunt to the right side. Now with one out, Catalina Morris singled to right field but a wild throw by the right fielder allowed her to advance to second, while Marnitz trotted to third. Nicole Barber then drove the ball deep to center field which was caught, but allowed Marnitz to score.

Philadelphia took the lead once again in the fourth on a solo home run by Jenna Hall down the left field line.

The score remained 2-1 until the seventh when the Glory rallied in their final at bat for the win. Morris got the rally started with a one out triple down the right field line and scored on Nicole Barber's second sacrifice fly on the night. On the very next pitch, Amber Jackson launched her league leading ninth home run to right field for the game-winner. Jackson now leads the NPF in home runs, batting average, and RBIs.

Pauly improved to 10-4 with the win, and is the second player in the NPF (teammate Desiree Serrano) to reach 10 wins on the season. Pauly pitched seven innings, allowing one earned run on five hits, while striking out six.

Margo Pruis (3-3) pitched well in the loss, allowing three runs on six hits in 6.2 innings of work.

Morris was the only Glory player with two hits while Nicole Barber drove in two runs to lead the Glory offensively. Jackson, Piper, Nichole Thompson, and Stephanie Best also recorded hits on the night.

Friedman led the Force with two hits, while Spencer, Hall, and Kellie Wilkerson also pitched in with a base knock.

The same two teams will meet tomorrow night at the George Mason Softball Complex at 7:05 pm.
