TUCSON, Ariz. For the second time in three games, the Arizona Heat surrendered a lead to the NY/NJ Juggernaut losing 8-5 in the nightcap of a doubleheader.
NY/NJ got things started early in the top of the first when their own Lyndsey Klein scored on a wild pitch by Heat starter Danielle Henderson giving the Juggernaut a 1-0 lead.
Arizona would jump on top later in the bottom of the fifth on Tamara Ivies two-run double. She would come around to score giving the Heat a 3-1 lead.
The Juggernaut would reclaim the lead in the top of the sixth by putting up five runs on two hits sparked by NY/NJ starting pitcher Gina Oaks double to lead-off the inning.
With the score at 6-3 in favor of NY/NJ, the Juggernauts Venus Taylor ripped a two-run RBI triple in the top of the seventh giving them an 8-3 lead and pretty much sealing the win.
Becky Turis two-run homerun in the bottom of the seventh was not enough to catch NY/NJ and the Juggernaut defense held on to earn the win.
Oaks improved to 12-8 after going 6 2/3 innings allowing five runs on eight hits while striking out two. Henderson's record now drops to 4-3 for the Heat.
Tomorrow nights game with the Juggernaut marks the conclusion to the 2004 season for the Arizona Heat. Game time is scheduled for 7:35 p.m. PDT and it will be fan appreciation night at the ballpark.
