Hempstead, NY An errant throw in the fifth inning by Peaches James proved to be the game winner as the Bandits outlasted the Juggernaut 1-0. Peaches James threw a complete game, allowing just three hits while striking out seven to take the loss for the Juggernaut against the first place Bandit team. Lauren Bay earned the win for Chicago as she allowed three hits of her own and struck out eight.
The game began and ended as a pitchers dual, as both aces gave up just three hits. The first hit of the game was recorded by Laura Harms, a bunt which was turned into an infield single when Harms beat out the throw to first. However, James recorded a groundout and a strikeout to end the inning. Kim Ogee recorded the first Juggernaut hit in the bottom of the same inning as she reached first with her own infield single. Bay and the Chicago defense were able to record three outs to end the inning.
Harms reached base her second time in the top of the fifth inning with a single to left field. Anne Steffan followed with a sacrifice bunt back to the pitcher, but the throw got away from James as Harms came around to score, allowing Steffan to advance to second as the ball went into dead territory. Another sacrifice bunt by Liz Brouk moved Steffan to third, but James was able to shut down the Bandit offense as she struck out Christina Enea and got Lindsey Hamma to flyout to Juggernaut right fielder, Trena Peel.
After allowing the leadoff hit to Harms in the fifth, Peaches James did not allow another hit to the potent Chicago offense. The Nauts were kept off balance the rest of the game, with Peel and Ogee recording the second and third hits of the game off Bay.
Kim Ogee led the Juggernaut offense, notching two of the three New York hits against Chicago. Laura Harms, former Juggernaut, tallied two hits for the Bandits.
