Game Box Score
LEAGUE CITY, Texas After the teams traded single runs in the first and second innings, the Texas Thunder and Michigan Ice went scoreless until the bottom of the sixth, until the Texas Thunder scored to take the lead for good.
Texas would hold on in the seventh to win the game by a final score of 2-1 at the Big League Dreams Sports Complex in League City, but not without facing trouble in the inning. The Ice would get the possible go-ahead run to second base before being retired.
The Thunder (6-1), who are in their third year in the National Pro Fastpitch (NPF), scored the decisive run after Raquel "Rocky" Spencer (Texas A & M) singled. She advanced to second base on a bunt single by Lindsay Gardner (Texas) and came in to score when the Michigan pitcher Melissa Stevens threw the ball down the right field line.
Spencer had her second solid game at the plate for the Thunder, as she finished Friday night's contest 2-for-3 from the plate. Gardner was also 2-for-3 on the night with two singles.
For the second consecutive game it was an error that helped propel the Thunder to victory. On Thursday night, Michigan committed five errors leading to all four runs for Texas.
Krystal Lewallen (Louisiana-Lafayette), who was making just her second start of her career, went the distance for the Thunder allowing just three hits. She also struck out six in the game to pick up her first career victory.
The Thunder will return to action tomorrow night for game three of the series with the Michigan Ice. Game time is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Big League Dreams (1150 Big League Dreams Pkwy.) in League City.
