- The expansion Washington Glory spoiled the season opener of the Philadelphia Force by taking game one of the four-game series by a score of 13-4. Sarah Pauly (2-1) went six innings for Glory, which improved their record to 4-1 on the young season. And the Glorys offense pounded out 13 hits against a trio of Force pitchers.
Kristina Thorson pitched four innings and took the loss. She gave up four hits and five runs, but none of the runs were earned as the Force committed three errors in the game.
The Glory got on the board first with a run in the top of the first inning. Kelly Kretschman walked and was sacrificed to second base by LaDonia Hughes. After an Amber Jackson strikeout, Oli Keohohou plated Kretschman on an error by Force first baseman Kellie Wilkerson.
The Force answered in their half of the first inning. Chelsea Spencer led of the Force season with a walk. After a Trena Peel sacrifice bunt, Wilkerson hit her first home run of the season. A deep shot over the left field fence to give the Force a 2-1 lead.
A RBI double by the Glorys Nicole Barber tied the score in the second inning. Hughes then singled in Barber to give the Glory a 3-2 lead.
The Glory would put the game away in the sixth inning. They would send 10 batters to the plate in the inning. The Glory would put a six spot which was highlighted by a 3-run bomb to centerfield by Sara Larquier. Larquier would end the night going 2-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored.
Kelly Kretschman was perfect on the night. She was 2-for-2 at the plate and walked two times in four plate appearances.
The Force (0-1) was lead offensively by Wilkerson. The free-agent pickup had two hits on the night. Emily Friedman also contributed two hits.
Jen Musillo pitched the seventh inning for the Glory, while Stacy Birk and Meagan Hennessy saw time in the circle for the Force.
The Force and Glory return to action Friday night at ECTB Stadium with a 7:05 p.m. first pitch.
