- The Washington Glory (10-2) completed a sweep of the Chinese National Team after defeating China, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon at the George Mason Softball Complex.
Washington got another brilliant pitching performance from Desiree Serrano (6-1), who pitched a complete game, allowing just one run on two hits with four strikeouts.
Amber Jackson as the only player on either team to record multiple hits, as she went 2-3 with a RBI. Kelly Kretschman scored both runs for the Glory.
China took the early lead with a run in the first inning but the Glory tied it up in their half of the inning. Kretschman led off for the Glory with a walk and was sacrificed over by Catalina Morris. Jackson then singled up the middle, but second baseman, Wu Di, saved the run from scoring with a diving stop, keeping the ball in the infield. That would not matter as Kretschman eventually scored on a passed ball charged to Pan Xia on the very next pitch.
The score remained deadlocked at 1 until the bottom of the fifth inning. Kretschman started the rally once again with a two-out bunt single. After Morris was hit by a pitch, Jackson connected on a single to centerfield to score the former Alabama star from second.
That was all the support Serrano would need as she pitched a perfect final two innings.
The Glory will host Venezuela in a four game set, starting Wednesday night at 7:05 pm. Thursday through Saturday's games will also commence at 7:05 pm. Tickets are available for all four games at www.washingtonglory.com
