Fairfax, Va. - Amber Jackson crushed two home runs, and Desiree Serrano, as well as Jen Musillo pitched combined on a three hit shutout, to lead the Washington Glory (8-2) to a 6-0 victory over China, Friday night, at the George Mason Softball Complex.
Jackson slammed her first homer of the game, her second of the season, in the bottom of the first inning. With one out, Catalina Morris laid down a bunt to the left side and beat the throw for an infield single. Jackson followed up on that, taking a 1-0 offering by Zhang Shan, over the left center field wall, to give the Glory a 2-0 lead.
Amber's hit parade did not stop there as she delivered again in the bottom of the third. After birthday girl, LaDonia Hughes singled down the left field line, Morris was then issued a free pass. With two on, and a 2-1 count, Jackson hammered her second homer of the game off Shan, deep down the right field line, that just barely missed landing on the neighboring soccer fields. Jackson now is tied for the league lead with three home runs with teammate Sara Larquier. The former Terrapin (Jackson), leads the league with 14 RBIs.
Serrano carried a perfect game into the fourth inning when Pan Xia connected on a double to center. Xin Min Hong then reached on an error, putting both runners in scoring position. Serrano got Li Chun Xia to fly out to end the inning.
Washington recorded an extra insurance run in the last of the fourth as Jessica Moore lined a two-out single to left field. Moore then stole second base on the next pitch. After Hughes reached on a single and an error by relief pitcher, Yan Jiaqing, Moore scored all the way from second, while Hughes advanced to second.
With the score now 6-0, Serrano pitched the fifth inning until giving way to Musillo. Musillo closed out the game, going two innings while giving up just one hit, and striing out one. Serrano (5-1) received the win, allowing just two hits, and striking out three in five innings. The former Sun Devil now leads the league in both wins, and ERA.
Zhan Shan received the loss for China, giving up five runs on four hits, in two plus innings. Yan Jiaqing gave up an unearned run in her 1.2 innings. Li Qi, came into the game with two outs in the fourth. She went the final 2.1 innings striking out five.
The same two teams will meet on Saturday night, at 7:05 pm, at the George Mason Complex. Washington and China will close out their four game series on Sunday, which is Fathers Day, at 3:05 pm. Tickets are still available for both games.
