Thunder shut out Racers in season opener

By:
HOUSTON, Texas - The Texas Thunder won it’s first ever NPF game tonight against the Akron Racers (10-0) on the campus of the University of Houston.

Hometown pitching great Christa Williams (UT) displayed her old magic and then some, as pitched the shutout, finishing the night with six strikeouts. Williams allowed only allowing two hits during the contest.

There were many firsts for the Texas Thunder franchise on Tuesday night. Aside from it being the first game of the season, the first run scored was by Houstonian Laura Leonetti (Brown), the first grand-slam of the season, and first of her career, was by Houston native Lindsay Gardner (UT) in the bottom of the fourth.

The Thunder’s solid offensive was backed by incredible defense. Notables include shortstop Amanda Buchholz (Nebraska), second baseman Gardner (UT) and center fielder Kristen Zaleski (Texas State).

The Thunder team is full of speed, which makes for an exciting game to watch.

Texas plays again Wednesday night and Thursday night at 7:35pm CDT at the University of Houston’s Cougar Softball Stadium. The two games will conclude a 3-game series with the visiting Akron Racers. Tickets can be purchased starting at 5:35 PM at the gate (located on the corner of Scott & Elgin Streets).
