ROCKFORD - Starting pitcher Cassidy Scoggins (2-0) allowed just one Chicago run for her second straight game en route to a 2-1 Thunder victory over the visiting Bandits.
Savannah Brown had the only hit of the evening for Rockford (3-1), but it drove in two runs to open the scoring in the bottom of the fourth evening. The bases were loaded for the Thunder catcher after Chicago starter Kristina Thorson (0-2) walked two Thunder and hit one Rockford batter. Brown then ended the no-hitter when she floated a ball over third baseman Stacy May's head just inside the left field line. That allowed Erin Evans and Stephanie Fischer to score for the Thunder.
The Bandits (1-3) attempted to mount a comeback in the top of the sixth when left fielder Amanda Freed led off with a single through the infield. After two quick outs, right fielder Nicole Trimboli hit a double to deep right center to bring the game back within one.
Scoggins then put the clamp down on the Bandit offense, retiring three of four batters in the top of the seventh, sealing the victory with a strikeout of center fielder Lindsay Schutzler.
The Thunder are back in action Monday night at Sportscore One against the Chinese national team for a one-game exhibition match. Tickets are available for $3 each (free for sponsors and season ticket holders) at the Thunder box office beginning at 5:00 pm and game time is slated for 6:35. On Wednesday, Rockford will host the defending NPF champion Washington Glory in the first game of a four-round series. That game is also slated for 6:35 pm.
